ABOUT THIS CEMETERY

About Laurel Hill Cemetery

A National Historic Landmark above the Schuylkill River, Laurel Hill was America's second major rural cemetery. Generals, industrialists, and 75,000 Philadelphians rest across its 78 terraced acres.

Perched above the Schuylkill River, Laurel Hill was Philadelphia's grand public garden in an era before city parks. Generals from the Revolutionary and War of 1812 lie beside industrialists who built American manufacturing. Its annual October Tours series makes it one of the city's most unusual cultural venues.
