ABOUT THIS CEMETERY

About Magnolia Cemetery

Charleston's storied burying ground on the Cooper River, resting place of the H.L. Hunley crews and generations of Lowcountry families beneath live oaks and Spanish moss.

On the banks of the Cooper River, Magnolia holds the remains of all four crewmen recovered from the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley, buried alongside Confederate officers and generations of Charleston's oldest families. Its Receiving Vault and Gothic chapel anchor one of the most atmospherically intact Victorian cemeteries in the South.
